Here with my mom Emma Tiebens and our dear friends Jorge Bueno, MaryAnne Morcos and Leon Gabrielian, celebrating “Snana Yatra” a bathing festival celebrated on the Purnima (full moon day) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha. It is an important festival of the Jagannath devotees. This is the first occasion in the year as per the Hindu calendar, when the deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra, Sudarshan are bathed with sacred water, milk, yogurt, coconut juice, other tasty juices and are decorated in sacred smelling flowers. It is truly magical experience.
Hundreds of people shared a complimentary Prasadam feast – a buffet of delicious and healthy vegetarian “Prashad” food that was lovingly prepared by devotees who sang and prayed as they prepared the food. it is so special because before we eat the food they offer the food to God. They are known as the Hare Krishna Devotees because they always offer all that they do to Krishna (God). After that went to the main temple and jumped and danced! It was so fun1
At the end of the celebration, I volunteered to help with the clean-up after the festival and as a token of the devotees’ appreciation they surprised me with these beautiful garlands! They felt and smelled heavenly!!! They also introduced me to the Director of ISKON Los Angeles- quite an honor! It was truly a blissful and ecstatic experience.
